Potty training a border collie puppy may seem like a challenge but it’s not as hard as you may think it is. You just need to know the right way to go about it and apply them consistently. If you try to do this all on your own you will fail. Collie puppy training should be done with a team. You will not succeed by doing it alone.
Using Commands
In Potty training a Collie Puppy you should try not to use many variations of a command. You should try to limit the amount of times you say the command. Try to train the puppy in a way that you can use the same command to ask the puppy to go to the bathroom and do the same command every time you call the puppy to you. Be consistent with the commands you give. You should try to reinforce your commands with rewards when you see the puppy doing as you ask him to. When you do this the puppy will not try to go to the bathroom in the wrong place because he will know he will get a reward for doing it the right place.
Using Affection
You should also always use lots of affection when you see the puppy going to the bathroom in the right place. The puppy will not want to go to the bathroom in the wrong place so he will use the right place and not waste any time. Also make sure you take the puppy out after every meal and after every sleep. This is how you get the puppy to learn to go to the bathroom in the right place.
In potty training a Collie puppy your main goal should be to make the puppy go to the bathroom as you ask him to. But don’t expect the puppy to go to the bathroom on his own. You need to teach him. You need to be patient and you need to do the commands consistently. But the puppy should learn fast.
Here are some techniques you can use to potty train a Collie puppy:
1. Praise Immediately
Start with praise as soon as you see the puppy using the right place. You can say its good, good boy, etc. As you see him start to use the command and ask him to go to the bathroom in the right place. He should obey immediately. He should go to the bathroom on his own when you tell him to. You should see the puppy doing it every time you ask him to.
2. Teach Command Meaning
Now for the second part. After the puppy starts to obey you, start to use the command you taught him to use in the right place. Every time you see him go to the bathroom in the right place, do the command again. When he obeys you, give him a reward. Say good boy or such words that you want to praise him for his action.

3. Troubleshooting
If he doesn’t obey you, do the command and get his attention, say the command and do not say anything else. Hold the command and wait for his attention. When he pays attention to you, give him a reward. Give him a treat if he comes back to you when you give him a command. Do this two or three times in a row. After he obeys you, do not give him a reward.
Mindset
Puppies are cute, yes? Let’s face it. But, they are hard to train as puppies, they need a lot of time, patience and consistency. A lot of times they are ready to learn the commands you teach them. But, they have to have a lot of time and patience, they need attention and they need a lot of love.
