When the rescue team found Mama Pickles walking alone one day, they knew they had to save her. She was pregnant, and her chances of survival would have been slim if the team did not get her off the streets. Animal control officers tracked down her owners, who insisted they didn’t want to have anything to do with her anymore.
The cheerful Pit Bull
The two-year-old was pregnant, and she needed facilities and services that a shelter could not offer. Fortunately, Pits & Giggles Rescue learned about her story and decided to take care of her. They specialize in taking care of puppies and their mama dogs who may be pregnant or nursing.Mama Pickles loved being at Pits & Giggles Rescue. She went up to the humans and dogs at the shelter, eager to get to know them a bit better. Mama Pickles would distract them from work so she can get their attention and shower them with kisses. It was challenging for her to move around, what with her big belly, but she didn’t mind at all.
A mama dog’s forever home
Lauren Casteen Sykes, the owner of Enchanted Hills Photography, also volunteers at Pits & Giggles Rescue. She takes photographs of the dogs and the puppies at the shelter to help them find loving families who will adopt them. When she saw Mama Pickles, she knew right off the bat that the dog was meant to have a maternity shoot.Perhaps Mama Pickles knew what Sykes had in mind for her because she could not keep herself still. She got too excited that she gave birth just a few days after the photoshoot. Everyone knew what Sykes was thinking when she saw the Pit Bull mom with her babies. Once Mama Pickles was well-rested, Sykes gathered everyone for a newborn photo shoot, featuring the Pit Bull and her babies.Credits to Enchanted Hills Photography
So you want to know more about me, eh? Well, I am a Canadian, husband, and father of two young men.
I would say boys but they are not really “boys” anymore. They are 19 and 17. But they will always be my little ones. :-)
And, of course, we also have a dog. He is an Affenpinscher. Also affectionately known as a Monkey Dog.
His name is Monty. Yes, it is after Monty Python as he is a funny, crazy character.
Dogs have always been a part of my life. My parents started and owned a Dog and Cat boarding kennel just 20 minutes north of Victoria, on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia.
I started this website as a way to give back to the dog community. Which is full of many extraordinary dogs and owners doing many different and exciting things.
I hope you come back often to enjoy the wondrous stories I find.
Thank You for your time and interest.
