In the year 2013, Nick Montez, a US Marine in Afghanistan, was discharged from his service. He was saddened to leave because he can’t bring Mally with him. Mally was his partner and a bomb-sniffing military dog. For years, he gets an update from the office to know whether he can adopt Mally.
The pair is responsible for searching and detecting improvised explosives and the like. They have been together in the job starting in December 2011. Montez always took care of his partner every time they are on duty. During hot days, he makes sure that he had given her IV’s before going out on patrol. IV’s are used to keep dogs hydrated when it is hot outside.
They have a weekly routine of working and training together. Montez also took care of Mally’s body by clipping her toenails, massaging her pads, and cleaning her ears. After he had been discharged from duty, he got a tattoo in honor of his partner, Mally. His tattoo contains Mally’s name, a paw print, and Mally’s military identification number.
He still got the tattoo even if he knows that he can adopt Mally in the future. After waiting for seven long years, Mally was reunited with her former handler, Montez. Montez is planning on spoiling Mally on the time they are together in his state.
The two had a special bond. However, their partnership and relationship in duty ended when Mally was transferred for another assignment. Montez stated that their separation was sudden, and he was not ready.
They had been working together for a year, and the time they had to endure separately will become rough for both of them. Montez was discharged in the year 2013, but he cannot bring Mally with him because she was still needed in the service.
After a long wait, Montez received a letter that says Mally had already completed her service in the armed forces and was ready for adoption. He received many donations and help that will fasten the adoption, and he was so grateful that their story affected many people.
Here is the heartwarming video of their reunion.
